Pun Intentions

While relentlessly trying to sieve ideas for a domain name,
i came across a couple of hilarious puns.

Condoms should be used on every conceivable occasion

Shotgun wedding: wife or death.

Is a book on voyeurism a peeping tome?

When you dream in color, it's a pigment of your imagination.

When two egotists meet, it's an I for an I.

It is tough to do inventories in Afghanistan because of the tally ban

When women enter middle age, it gives men a pause.

A successful diet is the triumph of mind over platter

Marriage is the mourning after the knot before.

one memorable pun learned during sec sch was from Julius Caesar,
in which he had the role of sole ruler of Rome.
and a random carpenter on the streets was demanded of his profession.

MURELLUS
But what trade art thou? Answer me directly.
COBBLER
A trade, sir, that I hope I may use with a safe conscience, which is, indeed, sir, a mender of bad soles (souls)

i thought that was so damn crever!

And in the spirit of puns,
i asked that Din to throw me one.
to which he replied

D: "This is my fall from grace"

Me: "ya ya. go sleep with your baby"

D: "she's already waiting for me on my bed"

Me: "wide spread"
"of usage, that is" (refer to baby as a new iPhone 4)

And on the other side with Mitch, we were having a ruckus racking our brains conceiving a domain name.

M : "how about fullofdisgrace.com"
"disgraceful.com"
"so next time if you're featured the headlines will read AMAZINGLY DISGRACEFUL!"

how about FUCK YOU?

PS: i still love you till the ends of the world, mitch

DiCaprio's `Inception' Dream Team May Save China: William Pesek

The Inception hype is still running high.
But this time, a Bloomberg columnist puts a fresh spin on it,
dreaming up what ideas should be implanted into the world's politicians' heads.
I think its very unrealistically clever.

An Apple a day breaks my bank away

In light of the omnipotent hype surrounding Steve Jobs and Apple with the recent launch of iPad and iPhone 4, i could not help but give thought about how Apple came about achieving such incredible fanatical fanboy/girl loyalty. pledging allegiance to anything Apple, unswayed by the fact that they would need to hold their phone in a funny way so as to not block the antenna. If I were to ever want to build a business selling products, i could use a leaf out of their CRM textbooks.
This then i googled, which is spot on
Strategies Apples Use To Create Brand Loyalty

Anyhow, Steve Jobs just has a knack for creating products which we never knew we needed,
and after we start on it, we can't live without it.
I'm guilty as charged.

Shadowplay

I've been trying out spot-metering on my Pen and its so much fun! it helps that i've got a spontaneous model for a friend who is willing to pose and humiliate herself in public. lol. i think i may have just developed a new penchant for silhouette shots cos they don't provide the viewer with a clear idea of everything that's in the shot, leaving much to wonder about. a little mystery there.

Mind-fucked, alright.

After half a year of anticipation for what i'd know would be no less than a masterpiece from Christopher Nolan, Inception did not disappoint.

With highly stylized CGI-ed visuals, intricately weaved scenes to depict what a-dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream (say whattt?!) would mean, this guy is without a doubt, at the top of his game. I'm so curious at how his mind works. This is seriously some nifty storytelling brilliance, as is Memento, although there were instances where it got so confusing and technical that I wished I was dreaming that I was watching this movie.

While trying to interpret the idea of a-dream-within-a-dream, I got reminded of my own experience of that 3 weeks ago. which of course had nothing to do with extracting or implanting ideas in someone's subconscious, but rather, i dreamt that i was dreaming. it was really weird.
in my dream, i was sleeping and dreaming of my mum on the hospital bed, all wrapped up in white cloth except her head, and she smilingly told me how she was looking forward to recovering and going home. Then in my dream, i woke up in tears knowing that that was never happening, that my dream was just a dream. And in reality, i woke with a wrenched heart and tears streaming down my face, also knowing it was never gonna happen, that my dream-within-a-dream was just a mishmash of the events i experienced 5 months ago. she was always looking forward to getting well enough to go home, but never got a chance to, and the white cloth was the torturous sight of her lifeless and cold body wrapped in it at the morgue. i knew what my dream meant. it was the worst dream ever. I don't think i've ever spoken about it, but yeah it still hurts.

I quote The Charlotte Observer:
Nolan’s tale is not only a trip through mental labyrinths but a reminder that memories may cripple us, unless we learn to let them go.

Wandering stars, for whom it is reserved

it was a tumultuous few days wrought with waves of emotions stemmed from different bothering thoughts/events. finally,i managed to shake off that feeling of displacement. and as the overused saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining. in this case for me would be seeing things in a new light, knowing who are the ones that i need more/less of. i do not enjoy bitching on a public sphere so moving on... to things i'm looking forward to this week!

1) Inception
by my adored director of my favourite Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight
i need to get mind-fucked by Christopher Nolan's brilliance once again.

2) Night Festival 2o1o
yay! arts + great phototaking opportunities

A shot i snapped at last year's night festival

3) Whitney's Birthday Meet-up

4) Dinner with Stepho Mammo and co before she flies back to Melbong

5) Ongoing endless mindless whatsapp conversations with MitchyBitchy
until that girl goes to nuuu york and render my phone lifeless for 2 weeks:(

The Element Of Freedom

And the day came

When the risk it took
To remain tight and closed in the bud

Was more painful
Than the risk it took to bloom

I have this magnet that reads:

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed- interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit- crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life...

But why would I want to do a thing like that?

Thieves In The Night

A want is a lack but also desire
A need can be nothing but should be held higher
A need is a want wearing disguise
It can be confused if fuelled by desire

i'm frustrated with my dad
i'm frustrated with the way i am
the way things are
my lack of interest in doing anything about it
the god damn weather
the cable tv channels

and if it's any consolation,

i really miss my mum.

happy mother's day

Fight Club Flight Card

too many things to like about Fight Club - the flight scene is just one of my faves!

and the best phrase ever - 'calm as hindu cows'
so darn flippant a simile but it makes a lot of sense if you think about it. cows are sacred in hinduism so they're always calm and peaceful, without needing to worry about being slaughtered like their other animal counterparts.

(may i add i'm blogging this at 530 in the morning, where i tend to be at the most absurd)

The GT Mojito

i've this love affair with mint leaves. i never fail to grab a packet when i'm at the supermarket,
adding it to anything i can think up of.
but the above is probably my best concoction yet...
it so refreshing it makes for a great summer drink!

Here's what goes in
copious amount of mint leaves and 1 squeezed calamansi - muddle well
ice, 2 parts Bacardi Limon Rum (credits to mah ziwei)
fill the glass with Pokka Green Tea. Stir.

FYI, the name to this cocktail has a double meaning. Go figure!

Summer Skin

The thing i love about Tingy87 is that she's always just a call away. we'd wake up at 2pm on a saturday afternoon, have a standard opening whatsapp line, call each other and blabber nonsense for an hour before we decide to do something spontaneously. This was just another of those saturdays, one filled with a very short dress, me making her pose in a silly fashion, sweltering under the relentless sun, hideous laughters, and island cremery.

Squeaky swings and tall grass
The longest shadows ever cast
The water's warm and children swim
And we frolicked about in our summer skin

I don't recall a single care
Just greenery and humid air
Then Labor day came and went
And we shed what was left of our summer skin

On the night you left I came over
And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders
Our brand new coats so flushed and pink
And I knew your heart I couldn't win
Cause the seasons change was a conduit
And we left our love in our summer skin

That Afghan Girl

This is an award-winning NGM cover which left me and probably half the world very intrigued with this girl. Those riveting eyes, are like abysses of her affliction, which is not something you'd usually or want to see in a girl thats all of only 12 or 13.

holy crap after sooooo long then i chanced upon this........
same eyes, more weather-beaten

Broken Bells by Broken Bells

...is a great indie rock album to get through a lazy sunday afternoon with!
it's one of those few albums which are worthy of repeated listens from front to back, back to front, with every song delivering interesting lyrics/layering of instruments/melancholic yet upbeat feel. and of course, James Mercer's vocals!!! omg. so dreamy. same vocals behind The Shins, which i dig. i dare say it could be my new favourite indie album of 2010!

Broken Bells - Vaporize

What amounts to a dream anymore?
A crude device; A veil on our eyes
A simple plan we'd be different from the rest
And never resign to a typical life

Common fears start to multiply
We realize we're paralyzed
Where'd it go, All that precious time?
Did we even try to stem the tide?

Why should we waste it on
Buying into the same old lies?
The longer we wait around
The faster the years go by

It's not too late
To feel a little more alive
Make an escape
Before we start to vaporize

Doubtless, we've been through this
So if you want to follow me you should know
I was lost then and I am lost now
And I doubt I'll ever know which way to go

A Low Perspective

How low can/should you go with your camera when you wish to involve the lower part of random people's bodies as subjects in your photo, without looking like a pervert?

personally, i find it a lil odd to be bringing a camera and/or myself to a low level in the midst of the street or train, being pretty obvious to the people that i'm trying to shoot their legs.
eugenes says we're just conditioned to think that it's inappropriate, but really, no one will diss me or anything. well, he's got a point there. i'd say the photographer's body language and equipment plays a huge part in looking pro, and less pervertic. try contrasting that with an image of a stranger pointing his phone at you from a low level, even if the intent was perfectly harmless, and what comes to mind?? -brandishing a slap your way-

if i should be thrown a less-than-impressed stare the next time i try it, i'll try countering it with 'nice shoes!' -insert kodak smile-

P.S: as much as i admit how i'm a leg person, me shooting legs has nothing to do with it.
